Sermon Notes:
What is the judgment of Christ?
1. Heaven is not a reward for good works, but a gift from God. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8)
2. The Judgment Seat of Christ is like the Olympic podium where people are rewarded by God for how they lived their lives on earth.
What are the rewards that await us in heaven?
a. A privileged place of service in eternity. (Mathew 19:27-28)
b. A privileged capacity to manifest the Glory of Christ throughout eternity. (Daniel 12:3; Matthew 13:43)
c. Praise from the Father! 1 Corinthians 4:5
3. Spiritually mature believers realize that how they live their life today matters in eternity.
Follow-up Questions from Sunday:
Quick Review:
Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything you heard for the first time or that caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
Digging Deeper:
1. When Paul was in Corinth he was charged and brought to trial (Acts 18:11-17)- of which he was set free. Paul uses this same imagery when he reminds them that one day we will stand before the judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10). What do you think this is?
2. How does 1 Corinthians 3:9-19; Romans 14:10-12; 2 Corinthians 5:10 help us understand what this is?
3. Which of the above rewards stir your heart?
4. In 1 Corinthians 4:5, Paul says that one day we will receive praise from God for how we lived out our lives for Him. How do you think you will feel that day? What do you think He will be praising you for?
5. Read 2 Timothy 4:6-8. At the end of Paul’s life, he said these words as he reflected on his life and his future with Jesus. How do these words minister to you today?
