Sermon notes:
1. Jesus isn’t warning us to not judge, but to not have a spirit of judgementalism.
2. Jesus says you fix a judgmental spirit with honest self- examination before God.
3. Jesus teaches us not to be a judgmental person and not to be a naïve person to the evil of the world.
4. In Mt 7:1-6, Jesus is teaching us to judge ourselves, others, and the world clearly.
5. A good definition of evil is the abuse of free will.
Review:
Looking back on last Sunday’s message and your notes, what was the most memorable part for you?
Digging Deeper:
1. Read Matthew 7:1-6. Do you think Jesus is teaching us in these verses to have a blind eye to the world? To suspend all moral judgement and refuse to discern between truth and error or between good and bad behavior? If not, what do you think is the issue He is addressing?
2. According to Jesus, why are we often unfit to judge others and how are we to overcome this? How have you journeyed with overcoming this in your life?
3. Read Matthew 7:6; 2 Peter 2:22. Are you surprised that Jesus says that humans can at times act like animals? Why or why not? How do you think He would know this? How have you seen this in your life journey?
4. Read Matthew 7:7-11. What promise does Jesus give to those who ask, seek, and knock in prayer and what does He not promise? How have you seen this truth lived out in your life?
Taking it Home:
Pray for God to help you see yourself, others and the world clearly so as to be a wise follower of Jesus.
