Sermon Notes:
1. Thomas was a loyal, courageous follower of Jesus who was by nature a pessimist.
What were the facts before Thomas that week when he refused to believe?
2. The tomb was empty.
3. He knew the disciples didn’t steal the body.
4. Thomas’ journey teaches us about the agony of faith.
5. Thomas isn’t just the representative of the “doubter”, but the doubter that became a believer.
6. Thomas and the other apostles’ willingness to die for Jesus is a compelling proof that Jesus rose from the dead.
Follow-up Questions from Sunday’s Message:
Quick Review:
Looking back on last Sunday’s message and your notes, what was the most meaningful part for you?
Digging Deeper:
l. When we read Luke 24:13-49 & John 20:19-25, we see that Thomas was in the room when the two disciples from Emmaus reported to the 11 apostles that they had seen Jesus. However, he had left the room before Jesus appeared to them. Why do you think Thomas left that room that night? What do you think was going on in his mind? What do you think would have been going on in your mind?
2. When we read John 20:24-29, we see that Thomas refused to believe that Jesus rose from the dead for one week. Why do you think that is? What evidence was at his disposal to believe Jesus had indeed risen?
3. When Jesus showed up in that room one week later do you think Thomas actually put his finger in Jesus’ hands and side? Why or why not? How do you picture this scene in your mind?
4. Read 1 Corinthians 15:35-58. How would you summarize what God is saying through Paul in these verses?
Prayer request:
Pray that people would draw near to God during this time.
