Follow-up Questions from Sunday:
Getting to Know You:
What has been the best part of the summer for you so far?
Quick Review:
Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything you heard for the first time or that caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
Digging Deeper:
- Read Romans 8:26-27. How does it make you feel to know that the Holy Spirit intercedes for you in prayer especially when you struggle to find the words to say to God? When do you think was the last time this happened in your life? What does this communicate to you about the heart of God?
- What do you think vs. 27 means?
- Romans 8:28 is one of the best-known verses in the Bible. Why do you think that is and how has this verse impacted your life?
- Many people use this as a life verse, but Paul isn’t saying that everything we experience in life ends up being good. What he is saying is that, in the end, it will be for our good. Share a time when you were experiencing difficulties and hardship, but then, years later, you looked back and saw that God used it in some positive way. Has that helped you not to be afraid when new problems arise? Why is it difficult to keep your focus on the big picture?
- Who, in the Bible, had negative things happen to them where God brought good from it for His glory and purposes?
- As you read Romans 8:28, who is this promise directed to?
- Why do you love God? When did you first start loving God in your spiritual journey?
- What is God’s purpose for you? Read vs 29.
- How have you been more like Jesus and less like “you” since you have been following Jesus
- God has a big picture for your life, and the big picture may involve difficulties, pain, and perhaps, suffering. Do you stop and think about your life as a big picture? If your life was made into a movie, what is the underlying message tying the plot together? (Who would you want to star in it?) If you know the movie has a happy ending, how does that help you make sense of some of the earlier scenes when things are going badly?
Taking it Home:
What is one thing you can apply to your life from this message and how can this group remember you in prayer this week?
