Notes:
1. We don’t create who God is, we discover who God is.
2. One way to discover the One true God is through prophecy.
3. Fulfilled and waiting to be fulfilled are two types of predictive prophecy found in the Bible.
4. The phrase “the day of the Lord” refers to Christ’s 2nd coming and His judgment on the earth.
5. Isaiah 61:2 reveals to us that understanding last days prophecy can be tricky because thousands of years can pass between two words, but not impossible.
Follow-up Questions from Sunday:
Quick Review:
Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything you heard for the first time or that caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
Digging Deeper:
1. For the last two Sundays, Pastor Frank has used the word “uncertain” to describe 2021. What word would you use to describe last year and why?
2. How has God been a strong foundation in your life in 2021? What Scriptures did God use to encourage you last year?
3. Read Isaiah 13:1-11. We know from 2 Peter 3:3-10 that the Second Coming of Jesus and His judgment on the earth is referred to as the “Day of the Lord”. According to Isaiah 13:1-11, what has to happen on the earth before the day of the Lord?
4. What do you remember or what have you learned about the first Gulf War? What similarities do you see between Isaiah 13:1-11 and the first Gulf War?
5. Many believe that Isaiah 13:1-11 was fulfilled in the first Gulf War; if this is true, what is God’s warning for us today and how should we be living our lives today?
6. Read Joel 2:1-11; Psalm 2; Revelation 19:11-19. When you read these prophetic chapters of the last days and the 2nd coming of Jesus, what thoughts and emotions go through your mind?
Prayer:
Close your group with prayer. Pray for one another that they will grow closer to the Lord this year and that God will help us all have a hunger to read His Word more in 2022.
Taking it Home:
Read and pray through Joel 2:1-11; Psalm 2; Revelation 19:11-19; 2 Peter 3 in your quiet times this week.
