The Book of Philippians:
Citizens of Another World
In the third chapter of the book of Philippians, Paul reminds the believers in Philippi that:
Our Christian “commonwealth” is in heaven.
Our earthy identity must at best be secondary because our true citizenship is in heaven!
As Paul was in prison in Rome he was encouraged by the promise that we all will be given resurrected bodies like Jesus.
**Some of His disciples didn’t recognize Him at first because His body wasn’t the
same in that it was perfect.
What was Jesus’ resurrected body like?
The resurrected body could…..
Be touched. (Jn. 20:11-17)
It could eat. (Lk. 24:36-43)
It could go through walls. (Jn. 20:26)
It could fly. (Acts 1:9).
**These new bodies/models will be free from sickness, disease or death.
Key verse: Philippians 3:20-21 New International Version (NIV)
. 20But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
*A question to ponder in your growth group this week:
Can you remember the first time in your life when the world’s values became less comfortable to you?
