People followed Jesus for their own expectations and reasons.

1.  The Zealots followed Jesus seeking political freedom.
2.  The “free loaders” followed Jesus for free food.
3.  The entertainment crowed followed Jesus because it was exciting.
4.  The personal advancement people followed Jesus for power and position.

What does Jesus desire from His followers?  Lk 14?

5. Jesus wants to be the number one passion and purpose in your life.
6.  The word “hate” means to hold in relative disregard.

Keith Green, commenting on the apathy of Christians today, wrote a song called, “Asleep in the Light,” where he says, “Jesus rose from the grave, and you (referring to Christians), you can’t even get out of bed.”  Why do you think Christians are not as committed today as they were during the first century?
5.  Reflecting on your spiritual journey, what price have you had to pay to follow Jesus?
