Follow-up Questions from Sunday’s Message:
Intro question:
What would you say were some of the most life-changing events of your life?
Digging deeper:
1. When you read 1 Samuel 17: 57-58 and 1 Samuel 18:1-9, what would you say were some of the most significant life changes that happened in David’s life after killing the giant? How do you think he would describe his life at this time and his faith in God?
2. There is a teaching in some Christian circles that says, “it is the will of God to make us healthy and wealthy”. What do you think of this statement? Do you believe it is true and in what ways?
3. Once King Saul found out that David was becoming more popular than him, he wanted David dead. By 1 Samuel 19, David is on the run for his life. How do you think David would describe his life and faith in God at this time?
4. What are some of the reasons why bad things still happen to people even after they accept God into their lives?
5. When you read John 16:33, what does Jesus promise us?
6. When Jesus finished His famous Sermon on the Mount, He ended it with the analogy that those who accept Him/His teaching will be like wise people who build their house on a firm foundation. When the winds come the house will stand. What do you think the winds represent? What would you say Jesus is promising us in Matthew 7:24-27?
7. By 1 Samuel 22, David is hiding in a cave after losing everything and running for his life. How would you describe the state of his heart from his prayer in Psalm 142?
8. In Psalm 142:1-2, it says that he poured out his complaint and troubles to the Lord. What is his tone? What do you think was on that list? Do you think it is ok for us to tell God our troubles? Why or why not?
9. In this prayer, at one of David’s lowest places, who does he say God still is to him?
10. How does David’s prayer in Psalm 142 encourage you in your prayer life to God?
Prayer:
Read and meditate on Psalm 142. Pray that God will use the life of King David to encourage you as you go through hard times.
Thought to meditate on this week:
Corrie ten Boom once said, “You many never know that Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have”.
