2. David’s life shows us God’s character and faithfulness in keeping His promises.
3. David’s life teaches us how to be patient in waiting for God’s promises. (Psalm 40:1-4)

Intro question:
When you think of people who have given you promises in your life, who do you think of?
Digging deeper:
1. In the Bible, there are thousands of promises given. How do you define what a promise is?
2. In 1 Samuel 16, as David was a young boy, he was given a promise that one day he would be King of Israel. Two chapters later, he had slayed the giant, married the king’s daughter, and everything was going great. How do you think, at that time, David imagined God was going to fulfill His promise to him?
3. From this high point, David’s life falls apart and for about 15 years he runs for his life from Saul. How do you think at that time David imagined God was going to fulfill His promise to him?
4. By 2 Samuel 5, Saul is defeated in battle and David is finally made king of all Israel after about 15 long years. Why do you think God had David’s rise to be king happen this way? What do you think was God’s purpose in waiting to fulfill His promise to David?
5. From David’s life, we see the faithfulness of God in keeping His promises and the patience that is required in waiting for God’s promises to be fulfilled. What promises has God made to you that you are waiting for Him to fulfill in your life?
6. What promise of God are you most looking forward to Him fulfilling for your life?
7. In the Apostle Paul’s lifetime, God fulfilled a huge promise. Read Acts 13:16-23. What does he say this promise is?
8. What promises of God does He fulfill in your life through Jesus?
