1. Jesus says that God permits divorce, but never intended divorce.
2. Jesus says that marital unfaithfulness is grounds for divorce.
3. Desertion or abandonment appears to be another Biblical grounds for divorce.
4. God allows for divorce at the beginning of the Old Testament, but says that He still hates it at the end.
5. Marriage should not be entered into lightly and it should not be left lightly!

Follow-up Questions from Sunday:
Quick Review:
Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything you heard for the first time or that caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?

Digging Deeper:
1. What do you think are some of the best positive effects of a good marriage on society?
2. What do you think are some of the worst negative effects of a broken marriage on society?
3. In Malachi 2:13-14, God says that the prayers of His people are being hindered because they are not honoring their marriage covenant. How would you describe what a marriage covenant is?
4. What other covenants exist in the Scriptures between God and His people? Which one is most important to you?
5. In verse 16, God says that He hates divorce. How much divorce do you think God has seen and what do you think are some of the things about divorce that God hates the most?
6. We read in Matthew 19:3-9 and 1 Corinthians 7:12-15 that adultery and abandonment are the two clear grounds for divorce found in the Scriptures. Do you think there would be any other grounds acceptable to God?
7. Pastor Frank said on Sunday that divorce is not the unforgivable sin. Do you believe this is true and what do you think this means for divorced people today?

Taking it Home:
