Following Jesus in Hard Times
2Peter 1:1-15
Second Peter was written right before or at the beginning of the first imperial persecution of Christians in 64AD. Peter knew that a time of great danger was coming to the church and that he was going to be killed. We see from this letter that:
1. As Peter’s life is coming to a close, he has a clear understanding of who he is and who his Master is!
2. He is a servant.
3. His Master is the Messiah, the Son of God, and the second Person of the Trinity!
4. Our faith in Jesus is given to us, not by our righteousness, but by His.
5. We are as equally privileged with our faith as Peter was with his.
6. During a season of tough times, knowledge of God (understanding of who God really is) is critical!
7. God is so good to us in inviting us unto Himself!
8. We are not to forget who we are— a child of God who is washed in the blood of the Lamb!
Key verse:
2 Peter 1:3 New International Version (NIV)
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.
Question to ponder in your growth groups this week:
What are some of Gods great and precious promises that really mean a lot to you?
