1. Who would you say was the first friend you ever had and what were the common place circumstances and interests that you had?
2. In your opinion, what qualities do people need to have to form good friendships?
3. What character qualities do you think are deal breakers?
4. We read in 1 Samuel 18:1-4 that Jonathan was willing to sacrifice for David. What friendships do you have where you would mutually sacrifice for one another? How has this happened lately?
5. We read in 1 Samuel 19:4-5 that Jonathan would defend David before his dad. How have you defended your friends or how have they defended you? Please share.
6. We read in 1 Samuel 20:41 that David and Jonathan were such good friends that they could be emotionally real with each other. Have you ever had this happen in your relationships? Please explain.
7. We read in 1 Samuel 23:15-16 that Jonathan encouraged David in the Lord. What friends do you have that most encourage you in the Lord? Who have you encouraged lately?
8. As you study the story of David and Jonathan what do you think is most unique about their friendship and what is the closest that you have come to a friendship like theirs?
