God’s Love Language
In the Gospel of John, chapter 21, Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him; not if he believed in Him nor had faith in Him–but if he loved Him. He asked Peter this because love is the number one thing that God wants from us as His creation. Will we love Him back? The thought for this Sunday is not “Do we love God?”, but, instead, “Are we loving God in a way that He receives love?” What is God’s love language?
5 love languages
1. Verbal
2. Acts of service
3. Quality time
4. Gifts
5. Touch
6. How do we love God?
7. What is God’s love language?
8. How does God receive love?
9. If you love someone in His name, then you are loving Him.
10. If you feed someone in His name, you are feeding Him!
11.God’s primary love language is acts of service.
12.Do you love God? Love Him with all of the Love languages!
Key verse:
John 21:15-17, New American Standard Bible (NASB)
15 So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My lambs.” 16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Tend My sheep.”
Some questions to ponder in your growth groups this week:
1. What was something you learned or what particularly stood out to you from the sermon on Sunday?
2. How would you describe manhood today in our culture?
3. What is your image of Jesus as a man?
4. Do you think Jesus is a person a man today in the 21st century would want to follow…why or why not?
5. As you heard about the five love languages on Sunday, what would you say is your primary and secondary love language? How about your least?
6. How do you primarily show love to others?
7. When you think about loving God, how have you shown Him love in the past?
8. How should the teaching from Sunday stimulate the way we approach and love God?
