Brothers and sisters we are living in amazing days; days where prophecies are being fulfilled at an alarming rate! Let’s look together at a miracle of the Bible that is being played out in our time – involving the Jewish people, the re-birth of the Jewish nation and its relevance to the second coming of Christ!
Key verse: Matthew 24:1-14, New International Version (NIV)
¹Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2“Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
4Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. 15So when you see standing in the holy place the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of through the prophet Daniel, let the reader understand—
1. Jesus said the world will be worse before His return, not better!
What did we read?
2. The Jewish people will be forced out of their land twice. Isaiah 11:11
3. The second time they are deported they will be brought back from all the nations;
the four corners of the earth. Isaiah 43:5-6
4. They will once again live in their land of Israel. Ezekiel 37:21
5. They will rebuild their cities. Amos 9:14
6. They will not be taken out of it again! Amos 9:15
7. God will be praised and remembered more for this miracle than in the days of Moses. Jeremiah 16:14-15
8. Jesus says temple will be gone and the people will be gone. Matthew 24/Luke 21
9. And the Temple will return and people will return before he comes again. Matthew 24
Some questions to ponder this week:
1. Hearing this sermon today, what does this mean to us as New Testament Christians?
2. When you think of Christ’s return and the joy of Him coming again, are you also burdened for your friends and family who don’t yet know Him? Let’s pray for their salvation and that God will give us opportunities to share the love of Jesus.
3. What should we do to ensure our love does not grow cold during this described time of wickedness?
4. If you could ask Jesus one question about the end of the world, what would you ask?
