Psalm 139: 1-24
I. Fundamental Principles
Whenever you allow other people to get you upset, you give them power over your life.
II. Signs that indicate you need healing in God through Lament
Given to irritability and fits of anger
Excessive, extreme or compulsive behavior
Mood swings
Prolonged sadness or a general feeling of gloom
Overreacting/easily offended
Constantly tired and stressed out
III. Our common response to pain: Denial and/or
Avoidance/Suppression
IV. In Lament we express our true feelings to God;
And then we wait for God to respond
Feeling vulnerable vs.1-6
Feeling assured vs.7-12
Feeling known vs.13-16
Feeling awed vs.17-18
Feeling angry and hateful vs.19-22
Waiting and listening vs.23-24
V. To fulfill our purpose in life, we need to overcome the
darkness in our hearts
VI. We forgive for our sake.

Icebreaker: What are the things that irritate you?
1. Describe your habit of prayer. How do you do your devotions? How often and how long?
2. What do you feel when you are praying? After you have prayed? Do you experience any change in your attitude because of prayer?
3. How do you feel when your prayers are answered? Share.
4. How do you feel when your prayers are not answered? Share.
5. Have you ever “dumped” on God in prayer? (Told him about your bad feelings?) How did you feel afterwards?
6. How has God communicated back to you in your prayers?
7. How do you solve (or resolve) your problems through praying?
