Small Group Questions
Icebreaker: Do you have a voting story? Share the best or worst experiences you’ve ever had in getting to the polls.
1. How long have you lived in the United States? What are some things you like most about America compared to other countries you have visited or lived in?
2. Were you surprised to hear about the Christian beliefs of our Founding Fathers? If so, why? How do you think these people would feel about the state of our country today?
3. Abraham Lincoln stated that his concern was not whether God was on his side, but rather if he stood on God’s side. God has a stand on the issues of our day. How do we as followers of Jesus figure out what His stand is? What has God used to help you in this journey?
4. Read Psalm 118:8-9. Have you ever experienced a time when you trusted in people/politicians and got let down? Please share.
5. Read Daniel 2:21; Zechariah 14:9. How does knowing that God will one day be king over all the earth help us keep perspective on the coming and going of earthly rulers?
6. Read Matthew 5:16; 1 Peter 2:9-12. Why do we, as followers of Christ, need to be civil and obedient? Is there a limit to this obedience?
7. Read Philippians 3:20; Hebrews 11:13-16. We are visitors in this world, but our citizenship is in heaven. How does a citizen act when visiting a foreign country? What kind of citizens of the United States should we be, in light of this?
8. Read Revelation 21:1-5. God’s end game is revealed to us so that we would trust in the victory that He has planned for this broken world. How can God be a source of strength to help you persevere as you wait for the day when His reign over this world is absolute?
Something to think about this week…
“Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”– Abraham Lincoln
Pray as a group for our country and that we as followers of Jesus will represent Him well in this season.
