Sermon Notes
The message of the Great Commission is:
1. Jesus is the prophesied Messiah who died for the forgiveness of sins.
2. All through the book of Acts, prophecy was used to prove the message of Jesus.
3. Prophecy is persuasive.
4. The Holy Spirit is sent to give power to the messenger and power to the message.
5. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to share what we believe and why.
Follow-up Questions from Sunday:
Quick Review:
Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything you heard for the first time or that caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
Introduction question for groups:
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Digging Deeper:
1. What do the many different world religions teach about God and what happens to us when we die?
2. In Matthew 28:18-19 & Acts 1:8, Jesus told His disciples to go tell the world about what He has done for them. What does Peter teach about Jesus in his sermons found in Acts 2:38; 3:19; 4:12; 5:31; and 10:42?
3. Does Paul teach the same message in his sermons found in Acts 13:38-39? How would you describe what the message of the Great Commission is?
4. As you read Acts 2; 3:11-26 & 10:42-48, what did Peter do to prove to the people that the message of Jesus was really from God?
5. In Acts 13:16-39, what does Paul do to prove that the message of Jesus is really from God?
6. In Jesus’ parable of the rich man and Lazarus found in Luke 16:19-31, how persuasive does He say that prophecy is in vs 31?
7. In the book of Acts, we read what Christianity believes and why they believe it is true (prophecy). What ways can we learn from them to help us be witnesses of Jesus in our world?
Taking it home:
Become so familiar with the prophecy of Isaiah 53 that you feel confident to show it to other people as a proof of your belief in Jesus. See these videos again of how Messianic Jews are using Isaiah 53 to share Jesus today.
Prayer:
Pray for each other in your group that God would help all of us see the opportunities to share Jesus with people around us.
