(SERIES: “GHOST STORIES”)

Key Verses: Galatians 5:16-25
SERMON NOTES:
1. The Holy Spirit desires holiness in the center of our lives. He contradicts our learned habits of disobedience.
2. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just tell us what to do. He leads us away from our sinful tendencies to the fruit of a life that is controlled by him.
3. The world is controlled by the flesh, and the result is self-destructive behavior. The world and its desires are not part of the kingdom of God.
4. The life which is controlled by the Holy Spirit will result in an experience of true fulfillment and a lifestyle of love and self-control.
5. If we have new life in the Spirit, our old life is gone. We should keep in step with the Spirit as he leads us to the things that last forever.
SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOUR GROUP THIS WEEK:

2. Have you ever gone for a walk and gotten lost? What were you doing (or not doing) that led you to the wrong place?
3. When you were younger, did you intentionally break the rules set by your parents? If so, what motivated you to disobey?
4. Was there a time when you felt strongly led to do the right thing, and later you realized it was the Holy Spirit? How did you know?
5. When you look at the world, how are its priorities typified in television and the movies? How does this differ from what you actually see in people’s lives that live that way?
6. When you read the fruit of the Spirit in Gal. 5:22, which of these traits do you especially need more of in your life? What would it look like, if you had more of that trait?
7. When Paul writes that we need to keep in step with the Spirit (Gal. 5:25), what are some ways that you can pick up the pace?
