Title of Message: I Am The Light of the World
We are concluding our series on the I AM statements of Jesus in the Gospel of John. Jesus reveals who He is so that we will trust Him completely as we travel the journey of life.
Verses used: John 1:1-5, 3:19-21, 8:12-20; Ephesians 5:8-12; 1 Thessalonians 5:4-8.
Key verse: John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Sermon Notes:
1. The light is truth in a world of confusion and deception.
2. The light is a contrast to a world of sin and evil.
3. The light is life and victory in a world of death and defeat.
4. Jesus is the light.
Some questions to consider this week:
1. What is one thing that stands out to you from the message on Sunday?
2. Have you ever had the lights go completely out or been stuck somewhere in the dark? What was the most frustrating or scary part of it for you?
3. Jesus says He is the light of the world. Light allows us to see things clearly. Since Jesus came into your life, what is one thing that you view differently than you did before?
4. What are some common beliefs or practices in our culture that are in stark contrast to who Jesus is?
5. Was there a time when someone not only told you how to solve a problem you were facing, but then helped you do it? In what ways has Jesus done this for you?
6. Jesus says that whoever follows Him will never walk in darkness (John 8:12). In what sense is that promise special to you?
7. How can we be “stirring in” the sermon’s verses into our lives this week?
