The Problem of Emptiness
– Dilemma: All of us have an eternal hunger for fullness and satisfaction in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
– Solution: The cure to satisfy our eternal hunger and the key to having true happiness is to worship God.
– Worship of God is expressed in two practical ways.
a. Love God.
b. Love others.
Worship and Happiness
– Forms of Worship (Romans 1:25)
o False Worship: Placing our highest value on things in creation (idolatry).
o True Worship: Placing our highest value on our Creator.
– Forms of Happiness (John 4:13-14)
o False or Partial Happiness: Experience of temporary satisfaction from things in creation.
o True Happiness: Experience of eternal satisfaction from the Creator.
The question is not if we worship, but rather the question is who or what we worship.
Application of Worship
– Worship starts with authenticity– God desires for us to worship Him with genuine hearts that love Him and desire to please Him (Isaiah 29:13).
– Worship requires sacrifice – It costs our time, energy, skills, resources, and more (2 Samuel 24:24).
– Worship is expressed with creativity – God has given us some liberty in how to worship Him (1 Corinthians 10:31 – Whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God).
Challenge: This week, in what ways can you worship God?
